The office chair is a key element for any office as an employee has to spend approximately 9-15 hours per day depending on the job pattern. Here you will get a through idea how make office chair more comfortable.
Here are some key important factors in how to make your office chair more comfortable:
Sitting on your chair whole day long even some time extended hours but it is required to maintain good posture in order to be free from back pain and neck pain. For not maintaining good posture if you are sitting in incorrectly then it does affect your posture. And eventually, that can lead to neck pain and most importantly back pain. Thus appropriate chair setup can help you to solve several health issues and keep you more comfortable the whole day long. I do recommend you for purchasing an ergonomic office chair that has below mentioned features.
- Consider the height of the chair
- Back support
- Materials of the chair
- Adjustable arms
- Consider a wider workspace
Consider the height of the chair:
You need to seat in such a position by adjusting your chair height so that your knee remain level with hips or slightly higher than the hips. Because if your legs parallel to your hips then you are putting pressure on your tail bone or sit bone.
Back support:
Ergonomic seat cushions will help you to distribute the weight of your body and stabilize your pelvis. As everybody’s back is different that’s why one should choose a cushion pillow accordingly. It is hard to recommend the back support as it is personal and depends on the person’s body structure. On top of that, it depends on how the chair is produced as well as the comfort of the chair. Because the chair can be firm, cushy, or even soft chair. It will keep your scrum right as most of the time we can work forward easily maintaining a good posture. Your seat back needs to be solid meaning it is not that springy back.
Materials of the chair:
You need to ensure that the material of the chair is not slippery as this material will not allow staying in the right position. Hence, you should choose a breathable fabric.
Adjustable armrests:
The position of your arms plays a very important role in giving super comfort to your chair. Apparently, the main problem is armrest is too low in most cases. If this happens the body is forced to fall down which results in bad posture and to some extent it causes chronic pain.
Consider a wider workspace:
You can add a footrest to your office chair to add that extra element of comfort. This idea of compatibility applies not just to your workspace but to the nature of your work. For close work, which has you peering at details on your computer screen, a kneeling chair can be an excellent choice as this allows you to lean forward comfortably and maintain a healthy back. If your work has you sitting for long hours, always make sure the seat itself is spacious with plenty of room for you to move position.
Not just adjusting your chair, adjust armrest, back support, and breathable fabrics but also you need to consider an ergonomic desk, ergonomic mouse, the keyboard will make your office chair more comfortable.
How to raise office chair without lever
Office chairs come in different shapes and sizes and sometimes office chairs also double as gaming chair; thus, naturally, they must be comfortable and supportive to one’s back, spine, and neck pain-free. The problem arises when you want to raise your office chair but your chair lacks a lever to adjust its height.
While some of the chairs are ideal for spending extended periods, there may be a missing lever for height adjustment. One of the reason can be that the chair may be broken, or it may be an older model lacking a height adjustment lever. Fortunately, there are a few means to adjust the height of your office chair even when it lacks a lever.
There are five ways to raise an office chair without a lever
I) Turn chair in a clockwise and anticlockwise direction
This is probably the easiest procedure that you can follow to adjust the height of a chair without a lever.
As mentioned earlier, there are a few chairs that don’t have a lever but they may have a clockwise and anticlockwise movement mechanism to adjust the height.
The process to adjust the height is really simple with these kinds of chairs: At first stand up from the chair then start turning your chair in a clockwise direction slowly. Observe carefully if the height of the chair is increasing or decreasing. If it increases then keep turning clockwise until you get to the desired height. If the height of the chair starts decreasing while you are moving in clockwise, then start turning it in an anticlockwise direction until it reaches the desired height.
Keep turning the chair in both directions until you achieve the best height, that you are looking for.
II) Use threaded post
Many chairs have a threaded post to adjust their height. Therefore, to increase the height, lubricate the threaded post by placing the chair in an upside-down position.
However, before applying the lubricant, make sure the chair is clean and use a clean cloth to protect yourself and your clothes from the oil. In order to secure the base, use your feet to prevent it from moving either way. Then move the chair in an anti-clockwise direction to increase the height and a clockwise direction to lower it.
Once you see a height difference, sit on the chair and check accordingly your height. Don’t be too much hurry go slow with it & don’t want to rush and mess the process.
However, if you are still not happy with the height, keep spinning the chair. The height increases by approximately 1/4 of an inch, with each spin. Therefore if you have to increase the height up to 2.5 inches, you will have to spin it at least 10 times in an anticlockwise direction.
Remember you can only do this if your chair has a threaded post.
You may also use a wooden piece to adjust the height of the chair by a few inches. For this, place a wooden piece between the seat and the chair.
Prior to that, take a drill and make a hole in the wooden piece. Ideally, a 2 x 2 inch piece will provide the ideal grip.
You will have to pass a long screw or nut through the hole and the number of wood pieces depends on the number of screws in the chair.
Then you will need to place the wooden pieces in between the seat and the lower part.
Once you are done placing all the wooden pieces, attach the seat back and reattach it. This should raise the chair by a few inches. This entire process is a bit technical in nature and that is why we recommend that you take the support of a professional, especially if you have never done something like before.
Few chairs have a bolt location placed at the bottom. To adjust this bolt location, stand up from your chair.
Move the bolt up or down to fix the chair’s height and stop it when you get your desired height. After that check, if the height position is ideal by sitting on the chair. If you find it is comfortable, then your work is done. If this does not work out then you have to repeat the process as long as you don’t get the required height.
You will get some office chairs in the market that have backrest and armrest height adjustment features. These chairs allow you to adjust the height of the backrest, up and down, similarly adjust the height of the armrests, up and down.
While adjusting the height of your seat you also need to ensure that the backrest and the armrests of your chair are also aligned to give you the best posture and best position to sit in.
This is why you need to adjust the height of the backrest or the armrests until you get the best comfortable position. Once you have got your desired position, just lock the tilt of the chair so that the position remains fixed.
We know that sitting for long hours can be highly uncomfortable if you do not have an ergonomic chair with the proper height adjustments. An uncomfortable chair can cause recurring backaches, knee pain, and in the long run, damage your spine. Now you know how to adjust your chair’s height with or without a lever. issue. This problem could be in the office or home office chair and may need some support to adjust the height of their chair that does not have a lever.
